of Spain to the Â鶹APP addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to transmit to you herewith the English and French versions of the Declaration made by the Twelve States members of the European Community on 20 March 1989 concerning the situation in Lebanon.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would have this letter and its annex distributed as an official document of the General Assembly, under item 37 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

Declaration by the Twelve on Lebanon<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

(Brussels, 20 March 1989<\/u>)<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Twelve, gravely concerned by the recent deterioration of the situation in Lebanon, which has resulted in a large number of civilian victims, reiterate their support for the national unity, integrity, full sovereignty and independence of Lebanon, without the presence of any non-Lebanese forces.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>They call on all parties involves in the latest outbreaks of fighting to avoid any action which might further heighten the tension.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Twelve also declare their support for the appeal launched by the Chairman of the Arab League Committee of Six for an end to these confrontations, so that that Committee can continue its efforts to find a solution to the Lebanese crisis.  They stress the importance of the role played by the Â鶹APP Interim Force in Lebanon and they reiterate their support for it.<\/p><\/div>\n
