\t<\/span>The Permanent Representative of Fiji to the Â鶹APP presents his compliments to the Secretary-General of the Â鶹APP and has the honour to enclose herewith the text of a statement issued by the Government of Fiji on 8 June 1982 regarding the recent Israeli invasion against Lebanon.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>Permanent Representative of Fiji requests that this note and its annex be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under item 34 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

ANNEX<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The Government of Fiji is deeply concerned at the recent resurgence of violence in Southern Lebanon which poses serious threat to peace and security in the area.  It deplores the violation of the cease-fire lines and the ignoring of the presence of the Â鶹APP peacekeeping forces in Southern Lebanon, which includes soldiers from Fiji. The Government is naturally very concerned as the Israeli military action renders the task of UNIFIL extremely difficult and also undermines the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon.  The Fiji Government fully supports the unanimous Security Council demand for an immediate cease-fire and the complete withdrawal of the invading Israeli forces from Lebanon forthwith and unconditionally.  This would be consistent with Fiji's long-standing position that conflicts in the area must be resolved through peaceful means.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The Government of Fiji is watching the developments in the area very carefully and is in close consultation with the Â鶹APP and the other troop-contributing States.  It earnestly hopes that normalcy would soon return to the area.<\/p><\/div>\n
