\t<\/span>I have the honour to transmit herewith the text of a statement on Lebanon made by the Twelve Member States of the European Community (see annex).<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the present letter and its annex circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 40, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

ANNEX<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Statement made at Brussels on 21 November 1988 by the<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Twelve States members of the European Community on Lebanon<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>On the occasion of the national day of the Republic of Lebanon, the Twelve send their best wishes to the people of Lebanon.  They hope that this friendly country can soon overcome the acute crisis through which it is going at present.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>In this connection, the Twelve reaffirm their support for all efforts aimed at the re-establishment and the protection of the full sovereignty, territorial integrity, independence and unity of Lebanon.  They also stress the importance they attach to the full realization of the constitutional process and, in particular, to the election of a President of the Republic who, as a symbol of the unity of the country, could contribute to national reconciliation.<\/p><\/div>\n
