EXPRESSION OF SYMPATHY IN CONNEXION WITH THE DEATH OF DZEMAL BIJEDI , PRIME<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

MINISTER OF YUGOSLAVIA<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

1.   The CHAIRMAN<\/u>, speaking on behalf of the members of the Committee, expressed sympathy to the Government and people of Yugoslavia in connexion with the death of Mr. Dzemal Bijedi, Prime Minister of Yugoslavia, and his wife.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

2.   On the proposal of the Chairman, the members of the Committee observed a minute of silence in tribute to the memory of Dzemal Bijedi , Prime Minister of Yugoslavia<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

3.   Mr. PETRI <\/u> (Yugoslavia) expressed the gratitude of his delegation for the Chairman's kind words of condolence.  He assured the Chairman that he would transmit the Committee's expression of condolences to his Government and to the family of Mr. Bijedi .<\/p><\/div>\n

ADOPTION OF THE AGENDA<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

4.   The agenda was adopted.<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

ELECTION OF OFFICERS<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

5.   The CHAIRMAN<\/u> said that, before soliciting nominations for the officers of the Committee for 1977, he wished to welcome the three new members of the Committee, namely Guyana, Mali and Nigeria.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

6.   Mr. PETRI <\/u> (Yugoslavia), proposing that the officers for 1976 should be re-elected for 1977, nominated Mr. Fall (Senegal) for the office of Chairman, Mr. Alarcón de Quesada (Cuba) and Mr. Siddiq (Afghanistan) as Vice-Chairmen, and Mr. Gauci (Malta) as Rapporteur.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

7.   Mr. MESTIRI<\/u> (Tunisia) and Mr. DOUKOURE<\/u> (Guinea) seconded the nominations.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

8.   Mr. Fall (Senegal) was re-elected Chairman, Mr. Alarcón de Quesada (Cuba) and Mr. Siddiq (Afghanistan) were re-elected Vice-Chairmen, and Mr. Gauci (Malta) was re-elected Rapporteur<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

9.   Mr. DOUGLAS<\/u> (Guyana) thanked the Chairman for his words of welcome to the Guyanese delegation and pledged his delegation's full support and co-operation with the Committee's efforts to redress the grievances of the unfortunate Palestinian people.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

ORGANIZATION OF WORK<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

10.  <\/span>The CHAIRMAN<\/u><\/span> drew the attention of members of the Committee to paragraphs 5 and 6 of General Assembly resolution <\/span>31\/20<\/a>, which set forth the mandate of the Committee.  He felt that the Committee should also bear in mind paragraph 4 of the resolution in considering its programme of work.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

11.  He suggested that the Commitee should conduct its consideration of the programme of work in informal session.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

12.  It was so decided<\/u>.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n
