\t<\/span>In my capacity as Chairman of the Group of Arab States for the month of August 1988, I have the honour to transmit herewith a letter dated 3 August 1988 addressed to you by Dr. Nasser Al-Kidwa, Alternate Permanent Observer, Chargé d'affaires a.i., of the Palestine Liberation Organization to the Â鶹APP.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would kindly arrange for the text of this letter to be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under items 37 and 77 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

Letter dated 3 August 1988 from the Alternate Permanent Observer of<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

the Palestine Liberation Organization to the Â鶹APP addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I am instructed by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, to bring to your attention Israel's deportation of eight Palestinians to south Lebanon on 1 August 1988. This brings the number of Palestinians deported by Israel in 1988 to 28. Those deported on 1 August 1988 are:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Louai Ali Naafe Abdo, journalist with Al-Fajr<\/u> newspaper, 34 years old, married, from Nablus. Abdo was arrested on 27 December 1987.  On 1 January 1988, he was given a six-month administrative detention order, which was renewed as of 7 July.  He was being held in Ansar 3 detention center (Negev). .<\/p><\/div>\n

2.\t<\/span>Jamal Diab Lafi Abu Latifeh, journalist with Al-Fajr<\/u> newspaper, 25 years old, from Qalandia refugee camp near Ramallah. Latifeh was given six months administrative detention on 8 January 1988.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

3.\t<\/span>Samir Sbehat, former general secretary of Bir Zeit University Student Council, married, with children, from Jenin. Sbehat was arrested 18 June 1988 and remanded for 18 days. At his hearing on 21 June his detention was extended for another month. He was being held in Dhahariya detention center (Hebron).<\/p><\/div>\n

4.\t<\/span>Mursi Abdul Haadi Hasan Abu Ghweileh, 22 years old, from Qalandia refugee camp near Ramallah. Abu Ghweileh was arrested on 28 December 1981 and put under administrative detention on 8 January 1988.<\/p><\/div>\n

5.\t<\/span>Ahmad Mohammad Jabber Sleiman, 35 years old, from Turmos Ayeh near Ramallah. A field-worker in Beir Zeit University's literacy program and a graduate in social work from Bethlehem University. Married. He left home in his car on 10 March and next day was found detained in Ramallah, placed under administrative detention on 28 March 1988.<\/p><\/div>\n

6.\t<\/span>Adnan Mohammad Daher, 31 years old, from Al-Bireh near Ramallah. Head of the Public Institutions and Labour Union in Al-Bireh. Daher was arrested 16 March 1988 and held in Ansar 3 without charges.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

7.\t<\/span>Jamal Zakout, 31 years old, from Gaza.  Zakout, a writer and journalist, was arrested two months ago and had been held incommunicado in solitary confinement in Gaza Central Prison. Married, with children.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

8.\t<\/span>Ziad Rushdi Nahal, 30 years old, from Gaza.  Nahal was released in the 1985 prisoner exchange.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>In addition to the eight Palestinians deported on 1 August 1988, Israel has declared its intention to deport six additional Palestinians.  Their names are as follows:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Mohammed Abdallah Labadi, trade unionist from Abu Dis (Ramallah), 33 years old, married, with children. Arrested on 15 April, he was interrogated for 63 days and  then placed under administrative detention.  Labadi has been repeatedly under town arrest beginning July 1986.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>Radwan Ahmed Ziyadeh, trade unionist from Al-Khalil, 31 years old.  Ziyadeh has been under administrative detention since February 1988.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

3.\t<\/span>Fathi Sheqaqeh, pharmacist from Rafah, Gaza, 38 years old.  Sheqaqeh has been in prison since 1980. Married.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

4.\t<\/span>Yusri Al-Hams, restaurant owner, 38 years old, married, from Rafah in Gaza.  Al-Hams was arrested in March 1988 and has been under administrative detention in Ansar 3 detention center (Negev).<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

5.\t<\/span> Ahmed Mustafa Mai'lek, student at the Gaza Islamic University, 29 years old from Gaza City. Mai'lek was arrested in June 1988 and detained for 18 days in Ansar 2 detention center (Gaza), then moved to Gaza Central Prison.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

6.\t<\/span>Mohammed Abdallah Ismail Sharableh, 42 years old, from Gaza City.  He was arrested in June 1988 and had been under administrative detention.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Again the Palestine Liberation Organization would stress that these illegal deportations are flagrant violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and numerous Â鶹APP resolutions on the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, in particular Security Council resolution 607 (1988) and 608 (1988).<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Furthermore, these deportations confirm the insistence of Israel, the occupying Power, to challenge international consensus and to continue its repressive policies and practices against the Palestinian people.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>We believe that these deportations require an immediate response from the Secretary-General and Security Council in order to guarantee compliance with Â鶹APP resolutions.<\/p><\/div>\n
