\n

\t<\/span>The General Assembly,<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling <\/i>its resolution 194 (III) of 11 December 1948, by which the Assembly established the Palestine Conciliation Commission and laid down the functions of that Commission,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Noting<\/i> that a final settlement of the questions outstanding between the Governments and authorities concerned with the problem of Palestine has not yet been achieved despite the efforts of the Palestine Conciliation Commission,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Noting<\/i> the efforts of the Secretary-General undertaken under the Security Council resolutions of 4 April 1956 (S\/3575) and 4 June 1956 (S\/3605),<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling<\/i> that the General Assembly, on 2 November 1956, adopted a resolution which noted the disregard on many occasions by parties to the Arab-Israel armistice agreements of 1949 of the terms of such agreements, and, inter alia<\/i>, urged the parties to the armistice agreements promptly to withdraw all forces behind the armistice lines, to desist from raids across the armistice lines into neighbouring territory, and to observe scrupulously the provisions of the armistice agreements,<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Hold <\/i>that, in order to secure a just and lasting peace, it is necessary to remove the underlying causes of tension in the area and to achieve a final settlement between the parties to the general armistice agreements;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Expresses its appreciation<\/i> to the Palestine Conciliation Commission, and discharges that Commission from the performance of further tasks;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Establishes<\/i> a committee composed of ………….., ……………, ………., ………….., …………..,<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(a)\t<\/span><\/i>To prepare recommendations, after consultation with the parties to the general armistice agreements of 1949, regarding a settlement of the major problems outstanding between the Arab States and Israel, with a view to establishing conditions of permanent peace and stability in the area;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>(b)\t<\/span><\/i>To submit its recommendations to the parties concerned and to the General Assembly, or to the Security Council as appropriate, and to submit reports to the General Assembly on the status of its assigned task;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>Requests<\/i> the Secretary-General, in co-operation with the committee, to continue his good offices with the parties;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>5.\t<\/span>Requests<\/i> the Members of the Â鶹APP to render all assistance to the Secretary-General and to the committee;<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>6.\t<\/span>Commends <\/i>the Secretary-General, the Chief of Staff and the  members of the Â鶹APP Truce Supervision Organization for their efforts to enforce the general armistice agreements, and urges the parties directly concerned to co-operate fully with the Chief of Staff and members of the Truce Supervision Organization in carrying out the tasks assigned or which may be assigned to them by the Security Council; and <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>7.\t<\/span>Urges <\/i>the parties directly concerned, as a matter of humanity, to lend all possible assistance in caring for and assuring the safety of the Arab refugees under the continuing care of the Â鶹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and recommends that Members consider and furnish what additional assistance may be required.<\/p><\/div>\n
