Timor-Leste supports the right of the peoples of Palestine and Israel to live side by side in peace, with dignity and in safety. We hope that the peace talks already initiated may at last lead to a solution with two sovereign States coexisting in an environment of mutual respect and rejecting extremism and violence. It is a courageous and responsible act because it translates the vision of two States, Israel and Palestine, living within secure and internationally recognized borders. The political and security conditions in the region have also been disrupted by the lack of confidence created by Israel&#8217;s continued policy of building illegal settlements on occupied Palestinian lands, its continued siege of the Gaza Strip and the detention of thousands of Palestinians and their imprisonment in subhuman conditions, in contravention of the most basic rules of international humanitarian law. Such practices reached their peak after Palestine received Observer State status in the Organization.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#212100;text-align:justify;padding-bottom:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">In this regard, we reiterate that only the international community will be able to find the difficult formula for peace. We value in this respect the ongoing efforts of the United States of America to achieve a breakthrough in the peace process and hope that persistent efforts and pressure on Israel will make it accept the resolutions of international legitimacy.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#212100;text-align:justify;padding-bottom:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\/&#8230;<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#212100;text-align:justify;padding-bottom:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><i>The meeting rose at 2 p.m.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#212100;text-align:left;font-size:8pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">This record contains the text of speeches delivered in English and of the interpretation of speeches delivered in the other languages.
