font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At its 2nd plenary meeting, on 19 September 2003, the General Assembly, on the recommendation of the General Committee, decided to include in the agenda of its fifty-eighth session the item entitled &#8220;Âé¶¹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East&#8221; and to allocate it to the Special Political and Decolonization Committee (Fourth Committee).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">2.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Fourth Committee held a general debate on the item at its 17th and 18th meetings, on 30 October and 3 November 2003, and took action on the item at its 24th meeting, on 14 November<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>(see A\/C.4\/58<strong>\/<\/strong>SR.17, 18 and 24).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">3.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; At its 17th meeting, on 30 October, the Committee heard a statement by the Commissioner-General of the Âé¶¹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), who introduced his report (see A\/C.4\/58\/SR.17).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">5.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At the same meeting, the representative of Norway, in his capacity as Rapporteur of the Working Group on the Financing of UNRWA, introduced the report of the Working Group (see A\/C.4\/58\/SR.17).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">6.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Also at the same meeting, the representative of the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the Âé¶¹APP made a statement (see A\/C.4\/58\/SR.17).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">7.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At the 24th meeting, on 14 November, the representative of Israel made a statement (see A\/C.4\/58\/SR.24).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>II.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Consideration of proposals<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;color:#000000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">8.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At the 24th meeting, on 14 November, the representative of Egypt, on behalf of the Arab States, Malaysia and the Islamic Republic of Iran, proposed to change the order of consideration of the draft resolutions before the Committee, in accordance with rule 131 of the rules of procedure of the General Assembly. The Committee then decided to consider draft resolution A\/C.4\/58\/L.9\/Rev.1 after all other draft resolutions submitted under item 83 had been considered.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; (A\/C.4\/58\/L.10).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;color:#000000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">10.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>1.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span><i>Affirms<\/i>&nbsp;the necessity for the continuation of the work of the Âé¶¹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East and the importance of its operation and services for the well-being of the Palestine refugees and for the stability of the region, pending the resolution of the question of the Palestine refugees; <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;color:#000000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>2.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span><i>Calls upon<\/i>&nbsp;all States to make the most generous efforts possible to meet the anticipated needs of the Agency, including those mentioned in recent emergency appeals, and to support the Agency&#8217;s valuable work in providing assistance to the Palestine refugees;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;color:#000000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>3.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span><i>Takes note with approval<\/i>&nbsp;of the report of the Working Group on the Financing of the Âé¶¹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East,4 for its efforts to assist in ensuring the financial security of the Agency, and requests the Secretary-General to provide the necessary services and assistance to the Working Group for the conduct of its work;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;color:#000000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>4.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span><i>Endorses<\/i>&nbsp;the efforts of the Commissioner-General of the Âé¶¹APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East to continue to provide humanitarian assistance, as far as practicable, on an emergency basis and as a temporary measure, to persons in the area who are currently displaced and in serious need of continuing assistance as a result of the June 1967 and subsequent hostilities; <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, serif, monospace;color:#000000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre;
