  The meeting was called to order at 5.05 p.m.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

The situation in the Middle East<\/strong> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    Report of the Secretary-General on the Â鶹APP Interim Force in Lebanon <\/strong>(S\/2002\/746)<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 The President<\/strong> : On behalf of the Council, I welcome the presence of the Secretary-General at this meeting and the one to follow. It is very good that he can join us for these mandate renewals.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Security Council will now begin its consideration of the item on its agenda. The Council is meeting in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Members of the Council have before them the report of the Secretary-General on the Â鶹APP Interim Force in Lebanon, document S\/2002\/746.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  Members of the Council also have before them document <\/span>S\/2002\/846<\/a>, which contains the text of a draft resolution submitted by France.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  I should also like to draw the attention of members of the Council to the following documents:<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

S\/2002\/739<\/a>, letter dated 9 July 2002 from the representative of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General, and <\/span>S\/2002\/806<\/a>, letter dated 22 July 2002 from the representative of Lebanon addressed to the Secretary-General. <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  It is my understanding that the Council is ready to proceed to the vote of the draft resolution before it. Unless I hear any objection, I shall put the draft resolution to the vote now. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  There being no objection, it is so decided.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  A vote was taken by show of hands.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The President<\/strong><\/span>: The draft resolution received 15 votes in favour. The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously as <\/span>resolution 1428 (2002)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The Security Council has thus concluded the present stage of its consideration of the item on its agenda.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 The meeting rose at 5.10 p.m. <\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

\n
