Report of the Secretary-General<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>At its fifty-fifth session, the Commission on Human Rights adopted resolution 1999\/12, entitled “Human rights situation in southern Lebanon and west Bekaa”.  In paragraph 6 of that resolution, the Commission requested the Secretary-General (a) to bring the resolution to the attention of the Government of Israel and to invite it to provide information concerning the extent of its implementation thereof; and (b) to report to the General Assembly at its fifty-fourth session and to the Commission on Human Rights at its fifty-sixth session on the results of his efforts in that regard.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

2.\t<\/span>In accordance with this request, the Secretary-General, on 28 June 1999, addressed a note verbale to the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Israel requesting information concerning the extent of the implementation of the resolution.<\/p><\/div>\n

3.\t<\/span>No reply had been received at the time of the preparation of the present report.<\/p><\/div>\n
