Jerusalem, December 10, 2018<\/b>\u2013 The United Kingdom is contributing an amount of up to \u00a318 million, equivalent to US$ 23 million to the Palestinian Partnership for Infrastructure Development Multi-Donor Trust Fund (PID Fund) administered by the World Bank. This is the United Kingdom\u2019s first contribution to the fund, joining a partnership of eight Development Partners.<\/p>\n

The funds contributed by the United Kingdom Department of International Development (DFID) will support the Palestinian Authority implementing priority activities in the water and energy sectors supported by the PID Fund. The contribution will support reforms and investments to achieve improved access to safe drinking water in Gaza, better performance of the Palestinian electricity sector, and a new business model for solar energy in Gaza.<\/p>\n

The PID Fund was established in 2012 with the objective of improving the coverage, quality, and sustainability of infrastructure in the Palestinian territories through financial and technical support in the energy, water and urban development sectors.<\/p>\n

With the new contribution, the total amount allocated to the PID Fund has reached about US$ 167.9 million. In addition to DFID, donors contributing to the fund include the governments of Croatia, Denmark, Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden.<\/p>\n
