The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will hold a special meeting on 28\u00a0November to observe the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People in the Trusteeship Chamber from 10\u00a0a.m. to 1\u00a0p.m.<\/p>\n

Speakers at the special meeting will include Cheikh Niang, Chairman of the Committee; Mar\u00eda Fernanda Espinosa Garc\u00e9s (Ecuador), President of the General Assembly; Ma Zhaouxu (China), President of the Security Council; Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, Secretary-General of the Â鶹APP; Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the Â鶹APP; and M. Shahrul Ikram Yaakob, Vice-Chair of the Â鶹APP Special Committee on Illegal Israeli Practices, as well as other representatives of intergovernmental and civil society organizations, notably Marc Lamont Hill, social activist and host of BET News and political contributor for CNN.\u00a0 The meeting in New York will be webcast at\u00a0http:\/\/webtv.un.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

All Member States and observers have been invited to attend the special meeting, as have Â鶹APP family organizations, intergovernmental and civil society organizations.\u00a0 The meeting is open to the media. \u00a0The proceedings \u2014 including messages of solidarity with the Palestinian people received in connection with the Day\u2019s observance \u2014 will be posted on the website of the Division for Palestinian Rights of the Â鶹APP Secretariat.<\/p>\n

Also, the Committee, in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the Â鶹APP, will present a cultural exhibit entitled\u00a0Unrealized Rights, Unfulfilled Promises: \u00a070 Years of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and of the Palestinian People\u2019s Nakba\u00a0<\/em>from 29\u00a0November\u00a02018 to 4\u00a0January 2019.<\/em>\u00a0 An opening ceremony will take place at 6:30\u00a0p.m. on Thursday, 29\u00a0November, in the Public Lobby of the General Assembly Building, during which the Chairman of the Palestinian Rights Committee, a representative of the State of Palestine and a representative of the Secretary-General will deliver remarks.<\/p>\n

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an annual observance that was called for by General Assembly resolution\u00a032\/40\u00a0B on 2\u00a0December\u00a01977 to commemorate the Assembly\u2019s adoption of resolution\u00a0181\u00a0(II) on 29\u00a0November\u00a01947 partitioning the mandate of Palestine into two States. \u00a0Events commemorating this date are held at Â鶹APP Headquarters in New York, as well as Â鶹APP Offices in Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna and other cities around the world.<\/p>\n
