Middle?East?

• On 21 January,??issued a press release?to?mark?one year since the start of the so-called “Operation Iron Wall” military offensive on Jenin,?in the occupied West Bank,?when Israeli?security?forces?entered?Jenin city and its refugee camp with a massive deployment of military vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and bulldozers.?The NGO?stated?that,?as a result of?the ongoing military operation, the total number of Palestinians killed in Jenin and Jenin Refugee Camp has reached 64 to date, including 16 children, alongside widespread injury, destruction, and collective punishment directed at the civilian population.?

• On 21 January,?the? strongly condemned the Israeli security forces entering the headquarters of the 麻豆APP Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of occupied Jerusalem on 20 January. The forces demolished mobile offices within the compound, lowered the UN agency’s flag, and raised the flag of the Israeli occupation in its place – conduct that constitutes a grave violation of the international legal immunity enjoyed by 麻豆APP premises and personnel, the statement reported.
• On 21 January, ?in the Occupied Territories published its new report “Living Hell”.?The document?provides updated figures and new testimonies from 21 Palestinians released from Israeli prisons in recent months and draws on data from other Israeli and international human rights organizations.?According to the NGO, the?updated information?indicates?that Israeli prisons continue to function as a network of torture camps for Palestinians, with the systematic abuse even more extensive than before. This includes physical and psychological abuse, inhuman conditions, deliberate?starvation?and denial of medical care, all of which has led to?numerous?deaths. The transformation of prisons into a network of torture camps is part of the Israeli regime’s coordinated onslaught on Palestinian society, aimed at dismantling the Palestinian collective.?

• On?19 January,??informed that?the Custodian of Government Property in Israel’s Civil?Administration?published a declaration?designating?694 dunams?(694,000 square meters)?of land belonging to the villages of Deir?Istiya,?Biddya?and Kafr?Thulth,?adjacent to?the Wadi?Qana?nature reserve, as “state?land.”?Peace Now warned that?the newly declared “state land” could be used by the government to?establish?a new settlement in an area that?constitutes?the only?remaining?contiguous Palestinian territorial stretch east of Qalqilya.?

• On 20 January,??filed an urgent request for an interim injunction as part of an ongoing petition before the Israeli Supreme Court against Israel’s anti-UNRWA laws. The request?seeks?to freeze the implementation of a sweeping new law passed in late December 2025, which has already triggered immediate efforts to cut off essential water and electricity services to UNRWA facilities in East Jerusalem.?In January 2025, Adalah,?representing?Palestinian refugees together with the NGO Gisha,?had already?petitioned the Israeli Supreme Court to annul two laws designed to terminate UNRWA’s operations. While the?High Court previously declined to freeze the laws, the situation escalated dramatically on 30 December 2025, with the passage of the UNRWA Activity Cessation (Amendment) Law.?

• On?15?January,??issued a joint statement?to?welcome the opening of the Preparatory Committee for the Conference of Plenipotentiaries on the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes against?Humanity,?as?a vital step towards closing a long-standing accountability gap in international law.?They?commended?the inclusion of non-governmental organizations in consultative status with?the?UN?Economic and Social Council?in the preparatory Committee.?They also urged?Member States to?facilitate?a transparent, inclusive, and effective procedure for?the continued participation?of civil society.

• On 12 January,??issued a press release informing that?for the first time since the outbreak of the?Gaza War,?and?thanks?to?a prolonged?legal?battle?by?Gisha, a cancer patient?had?left?Gaza?on 11 January?to receive critical medical treatment at a hospital in Nablus, in the West Bank.?Gisha?stated,?“The attempt to delay implementation of the court’s judgment illustrates the state’s insistence on?maintaining?a sweeping and unlawful policy at the expense of the most vulnerable, in service of grave violations of the fundamental rights to health and life. A blanket prohibition on patients’?access to available treatment in the West Bank and Israel cannot be justified?[…].”

• On 9 January?issued a press release?calling?on the international community and the guarantors of the?Gaza?ceasefire agreement to take immediate and effective action to bring an end to Israel’s?war; to pressure Israel to fully and unconditionally open all border crossings, facilitate the entry of food, aid trucks, medicines, medical supplies, fuel, and other relief materials; to open the Rafah Crossing to allow thousands of wounded and sick individuals to receive treatment abroad and to enable their right to freedom of movement; and to ensure the entry of adequate shelter materials for forcibly displaced persons, as well as winterization items for the population.

• On 6 January,??issued an update informing that?during the war that began in October 2023, the?Israeli?military imposed unprecedented restrictions on approximately 20,000 Palestinian farmers in the Seam Zone,?the area in the?occupied West Bank between the Separation?Barrier?and the Green Line?Border,?preventing the vast majority of them from accessing their land.?Nearly two?years later, and despite the end of the war,?instead of lifting the restrictions presented as a temporary emergency measure,?the?Israeli?military turned them into a permanent reality and anchored them in official regulations.?

?Africa,?Asia?and?Europe??

• On 22 January, the??reported its first victory against the Belgium State. This followed a summary legal action it had?initiated?in July 2025, alongside Palestinian plaintiffs and with the support of Law for Gaza and SOS Gaza, against the Belgian government because of its culpable inaction in the face of the crimes committed by Israel in Gaza.?In accordance with?the government agreement of?2 September,?a?Royal?Decree?“prohibiting the overflight of national airspace and prohibiting technical stopovers of aircraft transporting military equipment from Belgium to Israel”?had?just been published in the Official Gazette. This ban on the use of Belgian airspace for military support to Israel is an important victory towards a?complete military embargo?on?Israel, as underlined by the Belgian NGO.

• On 15 January,??issued a press release?about wells restored by the NGO and its partners in Gaza City and Khan?Younis, which are now providing at least 156,000 people with a life-saving and sustainable water supply.?Oxfam?stated?that needs in Gaza exceed far beyond the aid and reconstruction materials Israel is allowing in and?that?the situation will worsen if Israel’s collective punishment and illegal blockade continue. Water deprivation is just one of the many human rights violations Israel has undertaken with impunity. Oxfam and other organizations who have?operated?in Gaza for decades must be allowed to respond at the scale.

• On 15 January, the??issued the update “People,?not?numbers: Stories of?displacement in Gaza”.?DRC warned that the ceasefire, signed?100 days?ago, has not stopped the airstrikes nor the suffering: shelter is fragile, food and clean water are limited, medical supplies are scarce, electricity is absent, and winter conditions bring additional risk?to?all and?especially?children, older people, and people with disabilities.

• On?9 January,?the??issued the factsheet “Principled?humanitarian?support to Palestinians is?under?threat –?this is?what’s at?stake”, explaining what humanitarian organizations do in?Gaza in terms of food?assistance,?health?and shelter?activities. NRC explained that despite?challenges,?humanitarian organizations continue to?provide a lifeline to people in Gaza and the West Bank.?NGO teams on the ground are committed to continuing to serve Palestinian communities in need?and they?call on?Israel to?immediately?halt their deregistration proceedings.?Independent, principled humanitarian operations must be protected to ensure civilians can receive the?assistance?they urgently need.?

?North?America??

• On 20 January, the??published?the?interview “Health is Political: Dr. Tanya Haj Hassan on the?targeting of?infrastructure?sustaining?children’s?health in Gaza”.?Dr. Haj Hassan?described?the coordinated process of which children are deliberately harmed, and the evisceration of the medical, nutritional, educational, and familial infrastructures that are required to keep them alive and well.?She argued?that what has?emerged?in Gaza is not only mass injury, but the dismantling of childhood itself.

• On 7 January,?the Academic Council of??(JVP)?condemned?the Israeli military’s invasion of Birzeit University in the occupied West Bank?on 6 January. A swarm of Israeli army vehicles and soldiers?had?entered the campus unlawfully, firing guns, throwing grenades, and spraying tear gas at faculty, staff, and students. Around a dozen students?had?sustained injuries and were hospitalized.?JVP?joined?in solidarity with faculty, staff, and students at Birzeit?University?and throughout?the OPT?who have every right to express their views by invoking rights of assembly, protest, and expressions and to pursue an education free of Israeli military repression, without the threat of imprisonment, injury, and death.

United?Nations??

• On?15?January,?the?UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People?published its?December 2025 Bulletin on?action by the United?Nations?and Intergovernmental Organizations?relevant to the?question of Palestine.

• On 12 January,??issued a statement on his private audience with Pope Leo XIV, in which?Mr. Lazzarini had?briefed on the immense suffering endured by Palestinians in the?OPT?as well as on the political and financial challenges confronting UNRWA.?He sought the?Pope’s?support to preserve UNRWA’s critical services, primarily?in the area of?education, public?health?and safety nets for Palestine Refugees in Gaza and across the region until a just and fair political solution is in place.

• On?7?January,?the??published a thematic report, which?considers the human rights situation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, with a focus on Israel’s discriminatory administration there in violation of international law, including Article 3 of the International Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination (ICERD).?The report analyses Israel’s discriminatory laws, policies, and practices of oppression and domination against Palestinians, some in place for decades, with a focus on the period between 7 October 2023 and 30 September 2025.?
