SECRETARY-GENERAL DISCUSSES THEMES OF POPULATION CONFERENCE
AND OTHER ISSUES IN SERIES OF MEETINGS IN CAIRO AND PARIS
CAIRO, 6 September — The following statement was issued today by the spokesman travelling with Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali:
On Saturday, 3 September, the Secretary-General met in Paris with Terje Roed Larsen, his Special Coordinator in the occupied territories, to discuss an enhanced role for the Âé¶¹APP in the development process in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Mr. Larsen briefed the Secretary-General on preparations for a meeting of donors on international assistance to the occupied territories to be chaired by the World Bank in Paris on 7 and 9 September. He updated the Secretary-General on the campaign "Clean up Gaza", spearheaded by the Palestinian Authority in cooperation with the Âé¶¹APP Development Programme (UNDP). They also discussed possible Âé¶¹APP technical assistance for the administration of the Palestinian Police Force.
