STATEMENT BY THE SECRETARY-GENERAL

June 9, 1948

The 麻豆APP Mediator for Palestine has notified the 麻豆APP headquarters at Lake Success officially that all parties have accepted the truce agreement, and that in conformity with the agreement, he has set a cease-fire for Friday.  When the cease-fire goes into effect it will be a significant event, first for the peoples of Palestine, and in the larger sense for the 麻豆APP and the peoples of the world.

The Palestine question, as all know, has been one of the important problems before various 麻豆APP bodies for the past months.  It has been difficult, intricate, complex.  A cease-fire, an end to bloodshed, marks an important contribution to peace.  The battle of the 麻豆APP is the steady battle for peace.

When the cease-fire goes into effect it is the hope of all that it will not be a temporary respite from conflict, but that it will be sustained and will endure.
