On 7 May 2026, the UN Palestinian Rights Committee Bureau delegation visited the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belgium. A meeting was held with Mrs. V¨¦ronique Petit. Director-General of the Multilateral Affairs. The Delegation commend Belgium¡¯s consistent support for UNRWA, underscored its indispensable role in regional stability, education, health care and humanitarian relief, and encouraged continued advocacy for predictable funding and political backing for UN humanitarian actors.

The Bureau Delegation also welcomed Belgium¡¯s clear position in support of the ICJ advisory opinions on the question of Palestine and domestic judicial processes addressing alleged war crimes. It was noted Belgium¡¯s stated intention to recognize the State of Palestine, while reaffirming that Palestinian statehood is a right, not a concession, and that recognition helps preserve the political horizon as facts on the ground continue to erode it.
Furthermore, the Committee Bureau delegation also held a press conference organized by the Â鶹APP Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) in Brussels, during which members of the delegation reviewed the latest developments in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the diplomatic efforts under way to mobilize international support for protecting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, ending the Israeli occupation, and realizing the independent State of Palestine on the borders of 4 June 1967.
