The process of selection and appointment of the next Secretary-General has been formally initiated with the publication of a joint letter from the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Security Council.
About the process
In accordance with Article 97 of the Charter of the Â鶹APP, the Secretary-General is appointed by the General Assembly upon the recommendation of the Security Council. The selection and appointment process is also guided by General Assembly resolutions, most recently .
