{"id":11133,"date":"2015-08-06T12:25:49","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T16:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.un.org\/ruleoflaw\/?page_id=11133"},"modified":"2023-03-20T18:45:00","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T22:45:00","slug":"make-a-pledge","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/ruleoflaw\/make-a-pledge\/","title":{"rendered":"Make a Pledge"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Making\u00a0a pledge<\/h2>\n<p>Member States can make pledges:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Individually; or<\/li>\n<li>Jointly, with two or more States underlining their commitment to work together towards a common goal (including, e.g., regional groups).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pledges should be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Specific<\/li>\n<li>Achievable<\/li>\n<li>Action-oriented<\/li>\n<li>Time-bound (i.e., indicating in measurable terms the objectives to be reached within a concrete period of time).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pledges should focus on strengthening the rule of law at the national and\/or international level. Member States are encouraged to refer to the recommendations made by the Secretary-General in the programme of action detailed in \u2018Delivering justice: programme of action to strengthen the rule of law at the national and international levels\u2019 (<a href=\"https:\/\/undocs.org\/A\/66\/749\">A\/66\/749<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h2>Examples of pledges by an individual State:<\/h2>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u201cBy the end of 2013, the Republic of A will prepare and publish a multi-year national rule of law strategy and do so every [x] years.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u201cBy the end of 2013, the Republic of B will ratify \/ accede to [name of treaty to which they are not party].\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u201cBy the end of 2014, the Republic of B will develop a specific national action plan detailing steps to fully implement [name of treaty to which they are party].\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Example of a pledge made jointly by two States:<\/h2>\n<p><em>\u201cIn order to consistently and fully implement [name of treaty to which they are party or pledging to become a party], the Republic of B, will, with the support of the Republic of C (in the form of financial resources, training and mentoring), put in place the necessary national legal framework and capacities by 2015.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>For additional information, and to submit your pledge, contact <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/ruleoflaw\/contact\/\">the Rule of Law Unit<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Making\u00a0a pledge Member States can make pledges: Individually; or Jointly, with two or more States underlining their commitment to work together towards a common goal (including, e.g., regional groups).
