ORGANS GATHER FOR 1<sup>ST<\/sup> TIME IN RECENT HISTORY TO MARK INTERNATIONAL DAY OF MULTILATERALISM &amp; DIPLOMACY FOR PEACE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This morning the President convened an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/75\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2021\/04\/PGA-letter-Interactive-Dialogue-to-commemorate-and-promote-the-International-Day-of-Multilateralism-and-Diplomacy-for-Peace_.pdf\">interactive dialogue<\/a> to commemorate and promote the International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace.<\/li>\n<li>It was the first time in recent history that the heads of all principal UN organs gathered together.<\/li>\n<li>The meeting featured a discussion on the multilateral system\u2019s achievements and challenges \u2013 and how it could remain effective and inclusive in the post-COVID-19 era.<\/li>\n<li>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/pga\/75\/2021\/05\/05\/high-level-thematic-debate-to-mark-the-international-day-of-multilateralism-and-diplomacy-for-peace\/\">his opening remarks<\/a>, the President said the UN has faced challenges, which the architects of multilateralism could not have predicted. It has not always met the challenge of the day \u2013 and it would be a disservice to the people we serve to pretend otherwise.<\/li>\n<li>He said it\u2019s hard to say what the world might have been like without the UN. But, imperfect as it may be, the Organization\u2019s relevance remains unmatched after more than seventy-five years.<\/li>\n<li>It was in the General Assembly that the notion of universal human rights was first imagined, and it was there, in 2015, that the world pledged to leave no one behind by achieving sustainable development by 2030.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRESIDENT DISCUSSES SECURITY COUNCIL REFORM WITH CO-CHAIRS OF TALKS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On Security Council reform, the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) was held yesterday. Participants discussed a new document called the &#8220;Co-Chairs&#8217; Elements Paper on Convergences and Divergences.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>This paper was prepared by the IGN Co-Chairs, namely the Permanent Representatives of Poland and Qatar.<\/li>\n<li>The Co-Chairs now plan to update their paper, based on the inputs received from Member States yesterday.<\/li>\n<li>The President is also meeting with the Co-Chairs today \u2013 to discuss yesterday\u2019s meeting as well as next steps.<\/li>\n<li>As done in past sessions, the President intends to circulate a draft oral decision for consideration by Member States and adoption by the General Assembly at a future date.<\/li>\n<li>The decision is expected to include extending the IGN into the General Assembly&#8217;s 76th
