It is truly a pleasure to be here today to celebrate one of the bedrocks of our Â鶹APP \u2013 global peace.<\/p>\n<p>In 1981, the General Assembly adopted the International Day for Peace, to be devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. Since then, we have witnessed many conflicts and peace processes. While we have succeeded in many cases, the conflicts that persist embody the gap between reality and our visions of peace for our world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.12.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The love for peace and peaceful solutions can be a policy choice. Leaders have a responsibility to promote peaceful conduct in international affairs.<\/p>\n<p>Without inculcating the spirit of tolerance and peace in our young people and, without promoting inclusive and equitable societies, the vision of lasting peace that inspired the UN Charter continues to elude us.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=&#8221;1_2&#8243;][et_pb_code _builder_version=&#8221;3.12.2&#8243;]\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"250\" src=\"\/\/www.un.org\/webcast\/1362235914001\/B1J3DDQJf_default\/index.html?videoId=5838132491001\" scrolling=\"yes\" class=\"iframe-class\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe>\n&lt;!&#8211; [et_pb_line_break_holder] &#8211;&gt;&lt;!&#8211; [et_pb_line_break_holder] &#8211;&gt;[\/et_pb_code][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.12.2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p>That is why my theme of the 73rd session of the General Assembly and my priorities focus on inclusion, equality, justice, good stewardship of our planet and bringing the UN closer to the people.
