Laura Schweizer is an Adviser to the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. She is following the work of the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (Third Committee) and is responsible for issues pertaining to peacebuilding, security sector reform and human rights. Laura is the accessibility focal point in the office of the President. She also is the Western European and Others Group (WEOG) liaison officer.<\/p>\n

Laura is a lawyer by training and a career diplomat with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

Before joining the OPGA, Laura was\u00a0covering multilateral human rights policies at the\u00a0Directorate for International Law\u00a0in Bern and had held positions at the Swiss Embassy in Ethiopia and at Switzerland’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.<\/p>\n

Prior to that, Laura implemented a security sector reform project for the German\u00a0Gesellschaft f\u00fcr Technische Zusammenarbeit<\/em>\u00a0(GIZ)\u00a0in eastern DRC, served as a Human Rights Officer for the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Nepal and was a member of the\u00a0Office of the of the President of the UN General Assembly of the 65th session.<\/p>\n

A\u00a0native German speaker, she is fluent in English, French and Italian.<\/p>\n

Ambreen Fatima Anwar Husain is an intern with the Office of the President of the 71st Session of the Â鶹APP General Assembly, New York, focusing on political issues. She is a graduate of Dr. RML National Law University, India, with a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours). Prior to her internship with the Office of the President of the General Assembly, Ambreen worked at an Intellectual Property law firm in India, with a particular focus on trade marks. While pursuing her Bachelor\u2019s course, she interned with the Women\u2019s Rights Cell of Lawyer\u2019s Collective, where she analyzed the trends in judicial announcements relating to the law of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence. While pursuing \u00a0additional internships in areas varying from intellectual property rights and corporate law to human rights law, she developed her skills in research and writing.
