Senior Adviser<\/span>\u00a0| Migration<\/span><\/h3>\n

Lea Matheson is a Senior Adviser on Migration in the Office of the President of the 72nd Session of the UN General Assembly. She joins the Office of the President on secondment from the International Organization for Migration (IOM).<\/p>\n

With over 15 years with IOM, Lea has served in a variety of positions, including Deputy Permanent Observer in New York and Senior Humanitarian Policy Adviser at IOM Headquarters in Geneva.\u00a0She was also part of team of the Special Adviser on the Summit on Addressing Large Movements of Refugees and Migrants.\u00a0 \u00a0Lea’s policy focus is on migration and humanitarian affairs, with particular concern for migrant and IDPs, elections and humanitarian response, as well as the reform process.<\/p>\n

She co-founded and was the first co-chair for the\u00a0Global Camp Coordination\/Camp Management Cluster which strengthened\u00a0response to displaced populations worldwide.\u00a0She has also worked for the Organization for the Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Â鶹APP, and\u00a0 worked in several field locations including the Sudan, Iraq, Timor Leste, Kosovo, Croatia and Egypt.<\/p>\n

Lea is a Canadian national and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in History and Political Science from Brock University and the University of Toronto.<\/p>\n

Ambreen Fatima Anwar Husain is an intern with the Office of the President of the 71st Session of the Â鶹APP General Assembly, New York, focusing on political issues. She is a graduate of Dr. RML National Law University, India, with a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws (Honours). Prior to her internship with the Office of the President of the General Assembly, Ambreen worked at an Intellectual Property law firm in India, with a particular focus on trade marks. While pursuing her Bachelor\u2019s course, she interned with the Women\u2019s Rights Cell of Lawyer\u2019s Collective, where she analyzed the trends in judicial announcements relating to the law of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence. While pursuing \u00a0additional internships in areas varying from intellectual property rights and corporate law to human rights law, she developed her skills in research and writing.
