Âé¶¹APP system support for Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want

This report provides an overview of the main activities undertaken by the Âé¶¹APP system in support of Agenda 2063 of the African Union, in line with General Assembly resolutions 60/257 and 76/236. Focusing on climate action, it highlights the wide-ranging impacts of climate change on Africa¡¯s economic transformation, social development and environmental sustainability, despite the continent¡¯s relatively low contribution to global emissions. The report examines how integrated approaches across key sectors, such as energy, food systems, urban development and finance, can strengthen climate resilience and support low-carbon growth, with particular attention to the enabling role of digital technologies and data systems. It reviews efforts to enhance coordination within the Âé¶¹APP system and with the African Union and assesses progress in translating commitments into results. The report also outlines key challenges related to policy coherence, institutional capacity and financing, and presents recommendations to strengthen governance, mobilize climate finance and develop scalable, investable solutions. It emphasizes the need to position climate action as a cross-cutting driver of inclusive, resilient and sustainable development in Africa.

This report provides an overview of the main activities undertaken by the Âé¶¹APP system in support of Agenda 2063 of the African Union, in line with General Assembly resolution 79/247 and the conclusions of the Committee for Programme and Coordination. Building on previous thematic focuses, the report centres on social protection and decent job creation as key drivers of sustainable development in Africa, while maintaining attention to the enabling role of digital transformation. It highlights the interlinkages between economic growth, social inclusion and environmental sustainability, and examines how digitalization can strengthen social protection systems, expand employment opportunities and support resilience. The report reviews efforts to enhance coordination across Âé¶¹APP entities, including strengthened collaboration with the African Union and the adoption of joint strategic priorities, particularly in advancing digital public infrastructure. It assesses the contribution of Âé¶¹APP support to addressing inequalities, fostering inclusive growth and aligning education, skills development and labour market needs. The report also outlines key challenges, including gaps in financing, policy coordination and job creation capacity. In addition, the report presents recommendations aimed at leveraging digital transformation, strengthening social protection frameworks and promoting sustainable financing mechanisms. It emphasizes the importance of aligning education systems with labour market demands, fostering enabling business environments and investing in innovation to ensure that Africa¡¯s demographic dividend translates into long-term, inclusive economic development.

This report provides an overview of the main activities undertaken by the Âé¶¹APP in support of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union. In the context of the negotiations for the global digital compact, to be adopted in September 2024, the report is focused on the contributions of the digital transition to sustainable development in Africa. The report provides an overview of the potential of digital technologies for economic growth through innovation and job creation and an assessment of how digitalization can help to enhance governance, economic inclusion, social cohesion, peace and stability and increase resilience and climate adaptation. It contains a review of the work of the Âé¶¹APP and a summary of major advocacy efforts. The report contains highlights of progress made in promoting stronger coordination among Âé¶¹APP entities and with the African Union.

Providing an overview of the projects and activities implemented by the Âé¶¹APP system to support African countries in unleashing food systems¡¯ potential for economic growth through agro-industrialization, innovation and job creation, the report also shares the work to strengthen human capital through enhanced nutrition and the leveraging of agricultural projects for the inclusion of women, youth and vulnerable populations. It highlights initiatives to promote social cohesion, peace and stability, and to increase resilience while presenting innovative financing opportunities to enable the transformation of food systems.

This report provides an overview of the main activities undertaken by the Âé¶¹APP in support of Agenda 2063 of the African Union, focusing on the role of energy as a driver of sustainable development in Africa. It provides an overview of the projects, programmes and other activities implemented to support African countries in planning and defining their energy mix, developing new alternative energy sources, promoting economic growth and strengthening their human capital through energy investments, and mobilizing financing through catalytic projects. The report also outlines initiatives on the transition towards sustainable energy and highlights coordination efforts to leverage energy transitions to leap towards sustainable development in Africa while highlighting that substantively increasing access to sustainable energy in Africa is a precondition for achieving Agenda 2063, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change.
