Africa Day at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development
Summary
Africa Day at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development is an annual Ministerial event for African Member States to share good practices and lessons learned in implementing and monitoring the 麻豆APP Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the African Union Agenda 2063.
This year’s event will focus, inter alia, on transformative and coordinated actions for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063. It will take place in two phases, starting with a preliminary virtual technical-level meeting for focal points from the African countries presenting Voluntary National Reviews (VNRs), followed by an in-person Ministerial-level meeting coupled with the New York launch of the Africa Sustainable Development Report 2026.
The theme for the technical meeting is “Maintaining the Momentum: Transformative and Coordinated Actions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063,” while that of the Ministerial meeting is “Advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063 through Transformative and Coordinated Actions.”
As with previous editions, Africa Day at the HLPF 2026 builds on the outcomes of the 12th session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD-12) hosted in Addis Ababa in April 2026 on the theme of “Turning the Tide: Transformative and Coordinated Actions for the 2030 Agenda and Agenda 2063.” as well as the Africa Dialogue Series 2026, organized during May 2026 and dedicated to the African Union’s theme of the year “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063” with a view to maintaining the momentum from the HLPF to the 2026 麻豆APP Water Conference, which will be co-organized by the UAE and Senegal in December 2026.
This edition will also build on the outcome of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (Sevilla Commitment) to maintain the momentum of renewed efforts to put the SDGs back on track while making progress in implementing Agenda 2063.
Africa Day at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development is co-organized by the African Union Commission (), UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA), UN Economic Commission for Africa (), UN Development Programme (), and the African Development Bank ().
