The MDGs Advocates Group Meeting and MDGs Innovation Forum were held on 24 September 2013. The consecutive events followed by a VIP reception, were organized by DESA, under the leadership of ASG Thomas Gass. The President of Rwanda served as the Chair of the consecutive events.
The closed meeting between the MDGs Advocates reaffirmed commitments to accelerating progress on MDGs towards 20 15. The Advocates expressed their strong enthusiasm for bold collaborative action to achieve the MDGs.
As part of Advocates' acceleration efforts, an MDGs Innovation Forum was convened afterwards, which attracted more than 350 participants from whom 250 were prominent industry leaders featuring many CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, media, academia, civil society and celebrities.
The Forum called for a "Global Call to Action" and featured four Advocate-led presentations on health, education, sustainable development and technology. Industry leaders were encouraged to partner in these efforts, and. were provided a platform to provide constructive feedback and to report on their new commitments and plans for MDG acceleration.
The VIP reception hosted in the evening built on the momentum of the Forum by promoting networking and follow-up for future partnerships and commitments among attendees. There were over 150 participants and African superstar Youssou D'Nour performed a memorable concert and made a significant announcement for MDG advocacy in partnership with other MDG Advocates.
Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive. MDG Advocates have many follow-up activities planned in the months ahead and are looking forward to carry the successes of these events to inform the MDG Advocates strategy in the year ahead.
