Mr.\u202f\u00a0<\/span>Yukio\u00a0<\/span>Takasu<\/span>\u00a0has been appointed by\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>UN Secretary-General as Special Adviser on Human Security successively since 2010. Mr.\u202f<\/span>Takasu<\/span>\u00a0leads the UN\u2019s advocacy efforts on mainstreaming human security, including advancing the implementation of\u00a0<\/span>the 2030\u00a0<\/span>Agenda and\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Sustainable Development Goals.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ambassador\u00a0<\/span>Takasu<\/span>\u00a0has a long career related to the Â鶹APP activities in the Government of Japan, the Â鶹APP and as an academic.\u202fHe has held several senior diplomatic positions, including Permanent Representative of Japan to the Â鶹APP (2007-10), Permanent Representative of Japan to International Organizations in Vienna (2001-05), Director-General of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Multilateral Cooperation\u00a0<\/span>Department\u00a0<\/span>in Tokyo (2000-01).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In this capacity, Mr.\u00a0<\/span>Takasu<\/span>\u00a0assisted in hosting the G8 Okinawa Summit and he was instrumental in promoting Japan\u2019s initiative for human security and launching the\u00a0<\/span>i<\/span>nternational Commission for Human Security.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>At the Â鶹APP, he held senior positions, including Assistant Secretary-General, Controller of the Â鶹APP (1993-97) and Under-Secretary-General for Management (2012-2017).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr.\u00a0<\/span>Takasu<\/span> also serves as Chairperson of <\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Japan Committee for UNICEF and President of\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>\u201cHuman Security Forum\u201d,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a Japanese\u00a0<\/span>n<\/span>on-profit\u00a0<\/span>o<\/span>rganization.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Mr.\u202f<\/span>Takasu<\/span>\u00a0is\u00a0<\/span>a v<\/span>isiting\u00a0<\/span>p<\/span>rofessor\u00a0<\/span>at\u00a0<\/span>Ritsumeikan<\/span>\u00a0University, and has held academic positions at Harvard University, the University of Tokyo,\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>the Graduate University for Policy Studies.\u202f Mr.\u202f<\/span>Takasu<\/span>\u00a0was educated at the University of Tokyo (Faculty of Law) and Oxford University (Merton College). Recent publications include \u201cSDGs and Japan\u2014Human Security Index of Japan for leaving no one behind\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>(in Japanese).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
