During his visit to the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan in June 2017, the UN Secretary-General\u00a0Ant\u00f3nio Guterres described the socio-environmental disaster as one of \u201cthe biggest ecological catastrophes of our time\u201d. Capitalizing on the successes and lessons learned from previous human security programmes, the Governments of Japan, Nigeria, Norway and Uzbekistan have joined together with the UN Human Security Unit, the UN Country Team in Uzbekistan, and the Multi-Partner Trust Fund Office to organize a High-Level Event on 27 November 2018. The event aims to galvanize support towards collective action for reducing vulnerability and advancing sustainable development in the Aral Sea region through the Multi-Partner Human Security Trust Fund.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Complex and interconnected challenges to human security require approaches that maximize coordination among relevant partners.
